New Mac OS X 'makes the most of 64-bit'

Friday 29th of August 2008

The latest version of Apple's Mac OS X is a high performance tool which makes the most of 64-bit power, one expert has noted.

In an article for Mac Daily News, Prince McLean of AppleInsider states that with Power Mac G5 hardware the last incarnation of Mac OS X was sill subject to certain limitations.

However, he states that a number of developments, including Apple's migration towards 64-bit hardware and new Intel systems, mean that Apple computers can now do a number of things Windows-based desktop PCs often can not.

"In its spare time," Mr McLean adds, "the company also threw the iPhone together while also working to develop its next jump in 64-bit operating system software."

The current Mac OS X Leopard allows files to be stored in stacks and browse files using Cover Flow technology, among other things. The next version of the system is expected to be titled Snow Leopard.
